Wakehurst got their first league win of the seaon with a well deserved 1-0 victory against Armagh City at Holm Park on Saturday.
The scoreline didnt reflect the game with Wakehurst dominating for large periods. A free kick to Wakehurst on 6 minutes almost produced an early opener when Douglas Stevenson's free found Jason Paul in the area but the keeper saved for a corner.
Armagh's first attempt on goal came on 12 minutes but produced no danger for Wakehurst. On 20 minutes a great ball out of defence by Roy Colville found Conor Gregg but he couldnt capitalise. It was Conor Gregg again on 30 minutes when he robbed the defender only to see his shot go over the bar.
On 40 mnutes, a tempting cross from Andy Erwin found Ryan Gregg, five yards out, but amazingly he put the ball over the bar.
In the last minute of the half, Wakehurst got the breakthrough they deserved when Jordan Kenny sent an inch perfect pass to Jason Paul and he outpaced the defence to slot the ball home past the keeper to give Wakehurst the lead at half time.
Wakehurst continued in the same vein in the second half with Ryan Gregg and Jason Paul both going close and although Armagh had a short period of pressure, they didnt trouble the Wakehurst defence.
Armagh's best chance came on 80 minutes when Michael McKenna flashed a shot past the post. Wakehurst had a series of free kicks in the last half hour of the match but they just couldnt get that final touch in front of goal.
In the final minute of the game, Conor Gregg forced a great save from the Armagh keeper when it looked as if his shot was goalbound.
