Wakehurst were knocked out of the Intermediate Cup on Saturday suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Linfield Swifts in a game dominated by bizarre refereeing decisions.
Wakehurst found themselves one down from the kick off when Swifts no.10 broke on the left and Marc Maybin's first touch of the ball was to pick it out of the net.
Not the start Wakehurst wanted and in the opening period it was all Linfield and on 25 minutes they got their second when their centre forward rose above the Wakehurst defence to head in at the back post.
Wakehurst's best period of the game came in the last quarter with Mark Crawford and Stephen Mellon both coming close.
When it looked as if Wakehurst were on the up, Linfield struck again on the stroke of half time when no. 11 made it 3-0 at half time.
Wakehurst were up against it in the second half and they reduced the deficit on 50 minutes when a succession of corners resulted in a great header by Jordan Kenny in to the top corner to make it 3-1.
On 53 minutes, Stephen Mellon had a good chance but no.2 for Linfield cleared well.
A free kick to Wakehurst on 66 minutes gave Jordan Kenny an opportunity but the Linfield keeper held well.
The game was sealed on 80 minutes when the referee finished off a dismal day for him when he awarded Linfield a penalty that only he could see to make the final score 4-1.
