Three weeks after losing 4-2 away to Coagh United, Wakehurst were confident of picking up full points in their home fixture. Successive wins in both league games since that defeat boosted their confidence but this was dented as early as the second minute.
A sweeping move from the visitors had the home defence stretched and when Lamont's low cross was turned goalward by Campbell, his shot rebounded off the upright only for Gillespie to follow up for an easy finish from four yards.
This rattled Wakehurst and Coagh went on to dominate most of the first half with a second goal quickly following. Gillespie again being the marksman. Marc Maybin was being kept busy and his save from a Calderwood headed attempt on 38 minutes just about kept his team in the game.
Wakehurst began the second half much brighter but although they held the majority of possession, there was little threat to Coagh's goal and just when it seemed their offensive would eventually be rewarded, they gifted the visitors a third goal. Maybin could only deflect a half hit shot against Wakehurst captain Stevenson and the ball flashed into the net off his body.
Wakehurst made three substitutions almost immediately bringing on Stephen Mellon, Ciaran Lemon and Conor Gregg. Minutes later the Wakehurst keeper was left injured by a collision with Gillespie who had followed through when Maybin quite clearly had gathered the ball. This resulted in a five minute delay while he received attention.
Eventually the home side did get on the scoresheet on 77 minutes when Conor Gregg latched onto a good through ball from the lively Jason Paul and though his shot was partially saved by Yorke, Calderwood could only help it into the net in his attempt to clear. This should have provided the lifeline for the home side but directly from the restart, Coagh restored their three goal advantage, Stephen Lamont bursting through four defenders from wide on the right before laying the ball off to Scott who turned it into the net from close range.
Wakehurst continued to have plenty of possession though when it came to the final third of the pitch, the Coagh defence held all the aces and the visitors hard work throughout the 90 minutes was just too much for an inept Wakehurst performance.
