Wakehurst played league leaders Queens University on Saturday and were narrowly beaten 1-0 in a highly entertaining game at Mill Meadow.
Wakehurst were on top in the opening period with Jason Paul and Conor Gregg coming close early on. The first corner to Wakehurst was on 10 minutes and should have produced the opener when David Gage's fine header beat the keeper only for defender Prenter to clear off the line.
Conor Gregg had a chance on 22 minutes but his shot went over the bar. Queen's first corner came on 28 minutes but Ricky Culbertson was on hand to clear the danger for Wakehurst.
Queen's best effort of the half came on 36 minutes when James Lavery tested Marc Maybin in the Wakehurst goal but he was up to the challenge and punched the ball clear. Wakehurst finished the half strongly but just couldnt get the breakthrough.
The first corner of the second half went to Wakehurst and Lee McCaughern's cross was just headed over by Culbertson. Queens were awarded a free kick on 51 minutes but Roy Colville cleared the danger for Wakehurst.
Wakehurst conceded a corner on 75 minutes and were punished for not taking their chances when Matt McManus headed the ball home from close range to give Queens the lead.
As in the first half, Wakehurst had chances to equalise, the best falling to Roy Colville on 85 minutes when he hit the bar and the post following a great cross by substitute Darren Parker.
